Saturday 12th November 2016 saw yet another
successful and enjoyable Christmas Shoot held at Sterkfontein Shooting Academy
just outside Olifantsfontein near Pretoria. Shooters made up a full field and
the emphasis on the day was a Fun Shoot with relatively easy targets being the
focus ... thank goodness - as some of us novices really battle with clays, so the
easier going away birds and in coming birds were a welcome respite as opposed
to the sideways flying at Mach 1 birds. Most of us Old Timers have trouble even
seeing these birds, let alone breaking them. Thanks to those who set up the
field.
The shoot went off smoothly thanks to the competitors and
also to the safety briefing given by Andre before the shoot.
The scoring was performed methodically by Anel, although I
strongly suspect her accuracy as I feel that I scored way more crosses than
zero’s -
BUT she knows best (and refuses to cheat my scores upwards !!!).
Lunch was really spectacular (yet again) and the spread was
excellent ... with the Roast beef being particularly remarkable. Thank you to
the caterers.
Thanks go out to all the Prize sponsors, this year saw every
entrant in the shoot receive a Quality prize. That’s great indeed.
The Fausti Shotgun raffle was won by ticket # 78 ... Barry
de Blocq of Randpark Ridge in Johannesburg. There was a second Fausti Conrad
12ga raffled on the day too ... a Sudden Death involving some 10 tickets only
at R3K each. Thanks to those kind souls (gamblers) who participated in this as
well. Brett van Rensburg won the second Shotgun.
All in all everyone had a good time - and the general feeling is that there
should more of the FUN SHOOTS on a more frequent basis. Possibly one around
Easter just before the start of the hunting season.
Thanks again to all who participated and to those who made
it all possible. A total from both shotgun raffles of just short of R30K was donated
to the S.A Wingshooters Youth Development fund as direct result of the Fausti
Shotgun Raffles.
